So now that I have my new 7510 with FEL and brush hog, what do I need to keep it running in top shape? Thoughts on basic tools and equipment would be appreciated -- little things like, for example, grease the fittings every 10 hours, with what? Dumb questions, perhaps, but I am used to maintaing my cars.

I've read through the manual once (maybe too quickly) and will do so again.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

I have the same question about grease. Are there particular grades we should use on a tractor or are they all the same? ....

Oliver; unless you are experienced with modern electronics our ability to do much more than basic mainenence is getting pretty limited on the newer tractors that have most everything controled or monitored by an electric gizmo or computer. One reason for high labor rates at the dealership is their need to own the high dollar equipment to test all these things. Really for normal oil changes, etc. not much more is needed than the tools you'd have to maintain your pickup. The owners manual is your guide to the proper lubricants, don't use cheap discount store brands, use the brand and grade of oil, grease, filters, etc. that your owners manual calls for. Somtimes a manufacturer will change their recomendations now and then so it isn't a bad idea to check with your dealer once a year or so. James. No, not all greases are the same, there is clay base, non clay base, high temp, low temp, etc., etc., etc.. So use only what your owners manual calls for. Frank. ....

I just read an article about grease in the last issue of Successful Farming magazine. There are different grades of grease. There is grade for wheel bearings and one for chassis applications. They said that you can get a dual rated grease that is rated heavy duty in both applications. I can't remember the letter designations off the top of my head. If you go to any oil supply company they should be able to point you in the right direction. Mystic seems to be a big brand around here. ....

There are no bearings to grease any more, just pivot points on the loader and the speed control pedal. There may be an odd fitting somewhere else to grease, stay with the owners manual. It is important to keep a lot of grease on the loader pivots since the grease is the best defense against dirt and moisture for the pivot pins. I use a general purpose grease for the pivots on the loader and the speed control, if there is something better, I would sure like to know about it.

The best thing you can do to maintain the tractor is keep up with the maintainance schedule, and keep the tractor inside. Keep records of the maintainance you did, and your re-sale value will hold up really well. ....
